Thanksgiving

I took these (arguably inadequate) images on my way to my friend Jeannette's for dinner on Saturday evening. It was a moody, autumn dusk. I could see my breath as I walked and the clouds were gathered ominously overhead.

The incomparable thing about living in a really northern climate, is that you get to see the splendour of seasonal change in high-relief. Trees go from summer green to fiery red or burnt yellow in the blink of an eye.

As I walked, I felt such gratitude for my numerous good fortunes, among them, access to beautiful food and warm shelter, for family, friends and health. The sun set and the chill rose; I smelled burning leaves and woodsmoke all around me. Those are the best smells in the world, I thought, as I walked - bundled - all along my way.

  2. I completely agree. California was nice, but I MISSED the seasons. And autumn is fantastic for generating wistful gratitude.

  8. Are you having traditional food today or are you being creative?

  9. Bel: I'm inhaling for you!

    CC: Thanks!

    E: It actually was...

Seeker: Thank you. We are having a relaxing day...

Miss C: Not traditional here - we're not so turkey-loving in this house. We're experimenting tonight with pork roast rubbed in cumin with a wild mushroom jalapeno sauce and roasted veggies. Alas, the jalapeno seems to have gone missing so we're winging it with pepper sauce. This should be interesting.

  11. Hi. Beautifully described. I love the season changes. The nature change its colors and it's great when you can smell the autumn. I think that spring and autumn are two best periods of the year and each one is so different. Walking in the park is my favorite activity in these days.

    Good luck,
    Julie
