Good Reads: Bra Fitting

Check out Undiegamer's post on bra-fitting (complete with very useful photos) and this new classic on clarifying breast shape by Bras I Hate and Love.

Very useful reading, both.

So, are your breasts full on top? On the bottom? Or, like mine, are they "evenly full"? What brand works best for you? What's your biggest fitting challenge?

Let's talk!

  1. Love the post on fullness, I've never known how to determine that. I seem to be full on the bottom, but not excessively so... this would probably explain why I've never been able to figure it out before (some bras gape on top, others cut in... no consistency, really, even across styles.)

    1. OK, what is it when Blogger eats comments on your own blog??? I wrote, originally, that I believe the writer is also able to sew. She refers to bras and shape in ways that lead me to believe this. Also, she has done some bra alteration posts.

  2. Mine are full on top. I bounce right out of most balconnette bras!

The biggest issue for me is even getting a bra that fits my size. Depending on brand/style (/time of day/phase of the moon/a whim) I'm somewhere between a 34G, or a 32GG/H. It's kind of insane. Even the bras with extended sizing often don't go past G cup...

    1. See, there you go! I know that a lot of good ranges seem to top out at a GG. I believe Miss Mandalay is one of them... Lots of peeps are very dismayed. You should really consider Ewa Michalak from Poland. The ordering will be a pain (though the prices on the bras are very good). People swear by that brand when full on top. Apparently the support is incomparable. But they fit small. Mind you, they go up to a very high cup size.

    2. Wonderful to know! Yes, GG is often the largest they go, and as you said it does depend how small the brands run.

I'll definitely look up Ewa Michalak and give it a go. I'm thinking about another bra-fit post soon, too...

  3. SSOOO useful! Like a light switch has just gone on! I'm a full on bottom type, which is why the Bravissimo Alana bra (one size larger than my usual size though, which appears to be standard with other commenters) fits me so well. This post is a bit dangerous - you've just introduced me to a whole new blog world, from which I fear I may never return! Lots of reading to do.... x

    1. Jane - I'm sorry. And I don't even post about the half of the cool lingerie things I find! Bras I Hate and Love used to be called Bras I Hate, but for a variety of reasons, the writer amended the title. (There's a post on it.) She does the best bra reviews out there, IMO.

  4. Well, I just learned that I am full of bottom. Interesting! I also think I need to go in for another bra fitting, as I recently measured my ribcage and it came out to 28". Ugh, no wonder my 32 bands were feeling loose.

    1. Of course, 32s would be way to big on you. You are a person with a very narrow frame! Finding 28 bands is a real challenge, I'll warn you. Butterfly bras might be able to help. But, in the States, they're practically non-existent. Even in the UK, they're hard to find. 30 bands, however, are not as hard to find. Alas, if you need a 28, no sense in wearing a 30.

  5. After reading the post from BrasIHate, I was pretty convinced I was full on top......BUT.....upon closer inspection, I think I have one of each...*eek*. You probably know as well as I do the fitting issues I have--they simply don't make a bra that's "perfect" for me. I do wonder if I should be going down a band size though...I can stretch my 34" bands a bit farther than I "used-ta-could". ;-) Also, my rib cage now measures closer to 31 than the 33 it was a few months ago, but I'm afraid of sizing out of my all time fave bra (Curvy Kate Tempt Me) which tops out at GG and is what I ordered in a 34....

    1. Are you the one that posted that question?? That is totally not fair. Hard enough to find a bra that fits for one style of tits. How does one manage when trying to solve 2 different shape challenges at the same time. I say, when you find the right one, buy 10 of them!

  6. Both great posts! I might link to one of them, too. These things all came up in the sew-along... it's hard to fit a pattern if you don't know how a bra should fit.

    1. Aren't they useful! And I completely agree. It's almost impossible to make a well-fitting bra if you've never actually worn one.

  7. I enjoyed reading both posts as well! Thank you! In the past I've had such a hard time trying to find bras that would fit comfortably; especially with my larger than average busts. But one day I found a bra fitting specialist that helped me succeed in what I thought was impossible to achieve.
