The Part Where I Tell You I'm Sick: You'd have to live under a bridge to have missed my numerous complaints about this, but I'm home recovering from asthmatic bronchitis (the thing that's been having me in coughing fits I can't control for the better part of a week. I don't know how it is that even when I can't turn on the TV for apathy, and knitting a row takes half an hour, I can bring myself to write. I've had quite a lot of time to consider this (sleeping isn't going so well what with the suffocating cough) and I've come to the conclusion that a) it allows me to communicate at a time when I am feeling very isolated and b) being able to write reminds me that I'm going to get better, that I'm on my way back to health.

In truth I'm a very depressed sick person. I would welcome any good health vibes you've got to spare.

The Part Where I Update You about the Lingerie Shop Along: I have got so much wonderful feedback about the 20% discount at LCL until Oct 31. It warms my heart and makes me feel happy for everyone's boobs! Remember, just type in KLINE in the discount code box and you'll get that amount extra off of your entire order - even stuff that's already on sale!

I'm going to return to this series when my parcels arrive, to give you a reality-blog perspective on my goodies a) pre try-on and b) post try-on. I promise to make it compelling. That should come, parcels depending, sometime next week. FYI, to clarify: I won't be modeling them!

On a totally fun note, my LCL undies arrived in an unprecedented 2 business days - and I didn't get any kind of special shipping. Don't imagine you can expect that; it's never happened to me before. But you can see that sometimes international shipping can be pleasant. Even exciting.

The Part Where I Update You on the Renovation: Oh, my husband is chomping at the bit. You may recall it's Canadian Thanksgiving this weekend (the date by which, we were assured, the reno would be finished). Well, we're not quite there - to wit, the scaffold outside my house and the constant activity of trades (try being sick as a dog while you're floors are being installed - not that I'm not entirely grateful!). However, the bulk of things will be done by the weekend.

The floor installation finished 10 minutes ago. Those floors are so freakin' gorgeous it's crazy.

Hell can freeze over, Scott intends to install the custom closets himself this weekend. The couch gets delivered tomorrow. The 30" state-of-the-art (this week) computer monitor cum TV screen is already in the basement.

After this weekend, apparently we'll only have the balcony rail installation to go (they might get to that before Friday) and then, alas, the most grimy part of the whole job. You'll recall we've had a scaffold and taped off the inside door to the third floor to prevent any dust and crap from infiltrating the rest of the house. That's worked like a dream, for what it's worth.

However, the next thing on the list is actually removing and replacing a section of plaster on the the second floor (where the bedrooms are) because the intense smacking of the demo and reno damaged parts of that wall. We anticipated this would happen, btw, so it was built into the plans. We've previously done plaster restoration on a number of occasions at this point, given the age and stage of our home. So we know what we're in for.

After that, they'll need to paint the hallway on the second floor and paint my bedroom (the bone Scott threw me for going along with this thing).

And then, voila. A mere 5 months to a new third-floor. Well, it'll be a couple more months before the custom shelving is in. (And an ever more wan-looking kitchen.)

Wait, I'm supposed to end this on a good note. Love the reno. And I have a new purchase to tell you about in my next post. I haven't talked about this yet but it's been in process for the past couple of months. (Neither underwear nor home reno stuff.) Please stay tuned.

  1. Lordy you sound very poorly. And it doesn't sound very restful there, no matter how beautiful. Just remember by the time you're feeling hale and hearty again the work will be done (both are very close).
    Feel better.

    1. I know. I have to remember that all will be well. But seriously, when I'm sick I just freak out.

  2. Hope you get better soon. Too sick to knit (much) is REALLY sicker than one should be.

  3. I often struggle through the fall with my lungs. A bad ragweed season will make my asthma bad, that leads to chest congestion and by the time I throw in the towel, it's bronchitis. Touch wood I'm doing well this fall but you have my complete sympathy. Maybe writing works because you have a voice that doesn't require air.

Two days? Seriously? That's it? Very impressive.

I am so glad to hear the reno is nearing completion. There is light at the end of the reno tunnel!

    1. I know. My figleaves parcel just arrived today (thankfully a little pick me up!) with the wild card purchases. I know I said I would wait for all items before blogging but I don't think I can resist. BTW, it's not all "everything's gorgeous and it fits" which is why I need to share the info.

  4. So sorry you are feeling poorly. I developed asthma a few years ago and spend a lot of each winter coughing. For sleeping, start by propping yourself up on a bunch of pillows. That way you can fall asleep sort of sitting up and the cough is lessened. Glad you have the finished reno to look forward to.

    1. Thank you Victoria. My sister has had pretty bad asthma since she was a baby so I've seen how scary it can be. I have been sleeping on lots of pillows but I think that might be contributing to a severe headache. Of course, the headache is probably severe because I've been coughing violently.

  5. Yay for nearing the end of renovations! I'm sorry that you're sick, take lots of vitamin C and get plenty of rest, and you'll get better in no time. I wonder if the sickness is something to do with the renovation--super fine dust has a way of getting past even the best taping jobs. Maybe see if an air purifier helps?

    1. So much vitamin c it's crazy. And other vitamins for good measure. (I take a bunch of vitamins every day on a regular basis). Thank you.

  6. I was so sick for the last ten days - a bad flu/head cold started and I traveled down to San Diego to give an env. law class - it turned into ear infection/eye infection/bronchitis - I was never so happy to get home and take a bunch of Cipro I keep for travel - and seemingly this knocked it out.

Bronchitis is the worst - and I always worry about it turning into pnuemonia. My thoughts and prayers are with you. Keep drinking liquids and moist air. So sorry you're sick.

    1. Pammie: That's a nightmare! To be so sick and not in your own house. Having to get on a plane. That's horrible. I'm so glad you're feeling better. I'm allergic to Cipro so I'm taking another antibiotic.

  7. Sending good health vibes from New Zealand. Coughing is a whole body experience. Don't expect anything of yourself while you're fighting it! Nice of you to blog, though!

    1. Thing is, I don't have asthma. While my sister has had it seriously since birth (practically), I don't! Well, I wheeze occasionally but nothing serious. It gives me a new appreciation for what you asthma-sufferers go through. My sympathy!

  10. Sick = Yuck! I'm glad the renovation is coming along. Soon, it will be a distant memory:)

I just placed my first order with LCL with the discount of course! I'm so excited. I went to Intimacy's last weekend. I really loved a bra but I need to go up a cup size. I was told the bra wasn't available in the next cup size but LCL has it. I can't wait until I have it in my hot little hands.

    1. Ooooh, it's awesome when that happens. I hope it's cheaper online than it would have been in the store. That'll make it even more exciting :-)
