Tennis Anyone...

While visiting one of my favourite vintage locales (Refinery Vintage) lately, lovely proprietrix Cher suggested I try this on:

How awesome is this 1960s Ports dress - sweater on top, pleated skirting on the bottom - replete with the slightest drop waist?

It's so of its era that it was almost "trop jolie", too kitschy for me. But with the 9West patent, ankle-strap sandals, the look toughens up a bit.

  2. I love vintage Ports--reminds me of my grandmother's carefully planned shopping ventures. The dress looks great on you! BTW, what's the verdict on the "new" Ports 1961?

  7. Thanks Fruchtswerg! It is more versatile than I originally imagined. Now if only winter would go away I might wear it...

Miss C: I love it too! And I love the new Ports 1961. I've been meaning to do some research on Ports because, growing up, I thought that it was the house brand at Holt Renfrew. Was I just making this up? Might this be true?

Yulanda: Cher (the owner) told me that another woman had been looking at the dress and couldn't make up her mind and, there you go! BTW, with my industry discount, the thing cost 32.00. Unbelievable, non? BTW, I'd be happy to do a shopping excursion with you if you want to go there together sometime. Just let me know. K

Miss White: THanks so much! Those shoes are turning out to be the buy of the year. Can't wait to see which shoes you choose to spend your gift certificate on.

Enc: LOL - you've got my number!

    Merci Wendy.

Ambika: I thought of you, actually, when I found this because I know you love vintage and nautical and blue and this had it all. Come shopping with me in TO!

  8. I've never seen vintage ports. I like what tia cibani has done with the line. 1000 apologies for being so profoundly absent!

  12. Clothes Horse: As you do retro with such aplomb, I am thrilled to know you like this!

Riz: I'm glad your school year is over so you can regale us with your fab posts.

Merci IHeart, IM, Love Aesthetics and SKM!

Solemn Cat (LOVE this name!): That is such high praise. Thanks so much. One day, maybe he'll come take pics in TO...

  13. I'm in the suburbs at the moment, but come summer I'll be downtown (while interning at Queen & Jarvis), so we'll have to have a coffee/gelato/shopping/whatever date then! I went to Dolce for the first time yesterday after passing it countless times (& after you wrote about it here, I was dying to go). The mango gelato was pure heaven.

  14. Yulanda: Definitely we'll have to lunch and shop this summer! I am in Dolce every other day. I wonder if we might have been there at the same time? (I'm always the one getting sicilian pistachio :-)) Glad it lived up to its reputation. I truly love that place.
