Pattern Lust

What is it with me and the bags lately?

I found this one, quite accidentally, while scouring Ravelry in a mad fit. I am not looking for any new bag patterns. You may recall, I'm still on the hook for this one, the construction of which will commence upon my return from hols.

Behold the Simple Hemp Tote by Espace Tricot - and the pattern is free!

Alas, between the recommended yarn and handles, you're looking at about 150 bucks to make this sucker.

Which is why it's only in my queue and not on my needles.

  1. ... that and the fact that I can't imagine that hemp yarn (especially one designed for a tote bag) is going to feel nice while you're knitting.
    Love the handles though!

    1. I'm sure, yes, but not so much less. The handles are going to cost - and I'd have to find them online. Also, yarn is expensive. Even inexpensive yarns add up. Then, if you consider the benefits of working with the yarn suggested (when you know little about the properties of a particular fiber), it seems like a good idea. And then I'm back to the same old challenge - too expensive to justify right now. But there's always later :-)

  3. Could you harvest the handles off a thrift store handbag?

  4. Yikes! That's a lot of dollars for a knitted bag! But...it is a lovely knitted bag. ;-)

    1. I know! I sense it may be a project for next spring - when I want to make something fast, fun and functional. (And I care less about money than I do right now!)

  5. I made some of these handles with PVC tubes and leather and it worked. Then you can choose some other yarn. In fact, you don't even need to buy the pattern as the picture is good enough to count the rows and the stitches needed. Go girl!

    1. It's true, I could make my own rouleau handles - but I really like those Carmen :-) The pattern is happily free!
