Bust the Stash: Finished Object 5 - Kindling Mitts 1

I'm very pleased with these Kindling Mitts. They use up @110 yards (in size small, US 6 needle and sport-weight yarn):

Cables are never a mindless knit but there's enough consistency in this pattern (and it's well-written) so you can gain some traction quickly. Not to mention that they only take about 55 yards of fabric each. Very smart stash-buster, don't you agree?

  1. Hmmm, I've been making sock after sock after sock lately, but you're making me think I should make up some fingerless mitts to put in the Christmas/birthday gift stash as well. I have a pattern that works well for worsted and one for sock -- and I guess just following one of those patterns in Sportweight would turn a woman's size to a man's or a man's to a woman's or a woman's to a child's or. Oh right, you get it. Smart stash-buster indeed. (And a good way to justify a new addiction to Peaky Blinders by turning it into support for Christmas gift production. . . )

  2. I'm totally having a moment with the fingerless gloves (as my Ravelry queue will confirm). I LOVE socks but these are faster, just as practical (esp. in your part of the world) and they take less than half the yarn per project than a sock would!

  3. Ohh! I like those - I am knitting the diamond cable arm warmers by azure knits atm with some gorgeous Madeline tosh wool - going to look at this pattern too!

    1. I've got to go and check out that pattern. I LOVE Madeline Tosh. Vintage is my fave but it's SO expensive right now in Canada. It's like, 50 bucks a skein. Not that I'm buying it! I was just looking for, um, a friend.

  4. Love these mitts. Still haven't met a cable I didn't like! Have checked out the colours of the Mad Tosh vintage. Oh! So pretty!

    1. You should totally make these! Given that you actually like knitting cables, this would be a breeze. And really, the Tosh Vintage is all that. I'm having difficulty resisting buying some and I have no reason to buy. It just feels so good (and not in a delicate way).
