I like a lot of VPL's underwear-as-outerwear tops, but this get-up doesn't even flatter an underweight teenager. It's hard to picture it on a "real" woman!
Fruchtzwerg: When a gorgeous model looks miserable (and unattractive) it's just bad.
Thanks Kitten!
IHeart: So true. What's worse is it makes the model look very asymmetrical.
Wendy: I know! That's exactly what I thought. What ever happened to "smile through your pain"??
StyleRaven: It does mean visible panty line. It's an underwear line, as I understand it, that went underwear as outerwear. And now it's trying to run two separate lines (one outer, one under) though they both seem rather inappropriate to me.
S: I knew I could count on you to be the voice of dissent. I'm all for jolie laide, but this is over the line. When something is this ugly, I say bargain bin it. Just my opinion, of course.
Honestly, Enc, Miss White and Marmalade, I do not know how this line can keep itself financed when there's so much fantastic stuff that dies for lack of funding...
K Line. . . how dare you insultthe outfit I'm waitlisted for. I couldn't wait to walk down the street, passing baby strollers in this little number. . . I kid, I kid. . . thumbs down :)
Form/Function. Line/Curve. Safe/Risk. Art/Craft. Body/Mind.
Fashion intersects these. It's how we express what is popular in what is personal. It's where intellect debates sex; where soft and hard duke it out. So much mystery underpins beautiful things. So much confidence rests upon them. Discuss.
i can't think of many people who could pull it off. i'm not even sure the model does...
ReplyDeletevery american apparel isn't it?
I will pass on it. That's incredible awful
ReplyDeletei have no words. no really, it's that bad.
ReplyDeleteDov Charney of American Apparel must be behind this, that bastard!
I do not think it is your imagination. I think it is the design.

ReplyDeleteThe model looks depressed about it.
ReplyDeleteVPL? I hope that doesn't mean what I think it does. The picture doesn't help either.
ReplyDeleteActually, I think it is kind of interesting. Not in a "my, what a great outfit you have on" but at least in a "wow. what is that?!" kind of way.
ReplyDeleteunflattering, absolutely. but is fashion always about looking good? do we only like art when it is pretty?
Sandra
gruesome!
ReplyDeleteKL and Jill: Very AA. But in the worst way.

IM: You said it all.
Yes, it's very un... whatever you said awful!
ReplyDeleteunconscionably is the right word. i think legal action should be taken.
ReplyDeleteit looks so tragic and sleazy. is this collection inspired by sex slaves in thai brothels?
It's appalling.
ReplyDeleteIt's all the way to F-ed up

ReplyDeleteMarmalade Wombat - I love your whacky name...
