Teeki Bar

OK, I'm sorry. First I bore you with the (mercifully shortest) weekend of bra-making failures. Now I'm back and it's gonna be about yoga. If you don't like yoga, I don't know what to say. It's my free-time activity. In addition to doing it, I research cute clothing in which to do it, I read fun blogs that discuss doing it, I experience bizarrely significant health improvements as a result of doing it.

I'd like to tell you it's just a phase but, um, that ship has sailed.

So, today's yoga moment is to share with you this whimsical leggings brand I recently discovered - Teeki. Do you know it?

The printed fabrics are so awesomely loud and unyogic. I mean, this print (below, the one I bought) is utterly subdued by comparison with most of the others:

Teeki Hot Pants - Stardust
This style cost a pretty reasonable 70 something US dollars. And I'm a bit thrilled by the thought of wearing constellations on my ass.

Note: Shipping within the US (these are US-made) is $8.50?! Shipping to Canada is 30 bucks. That's fucking high on drugs. Fortunately, I can ship to my mother and she'll forward to me. As far as I'm concerned, that surcharge takes these out of the realm of reasonable for those who live outside of America. I mean, when online leggings cost more than Lulu Lemon pants, walk away.

When they arrive, I'll let you know what I think of the fabric, the fit and the quality. People seem either to love or hate these re: fit. I do hope I fall into the former category.

But really, don't these give you a little thrill?:

(People, those are dolphins.)

Please, check out the offerings and tell me what you think of the patterns. Ugly as sin? Amazing? Bizarre? I wanna know!

  1. I find that shipping charges from Canada TO the US when ordering online are equally insane... I wanted to order some bra making supplies, and the Canadian supplier had shipping that was twice the cost of the parts I wanted, plus a six to eight weeks to arrive... I ordered the same size and quantity of underwires from the Netherlands and the shipping charge was minimal and they arrived in my mailbox in three days from when I placed the order...

  2. I suspect you're speaking about Bra-Makers Supply? Their shipping is ridiculous. Not to mention handling. I have very little use for them. I live in TO and it costs a fortune and takes a week. That's an hour away.

As I understand it, there are no postal subsidies in Canada so it costs as much to send within Canada (or more) as it does to send from Canada to US. I'm really surprised by how much Teeki charges to deliver within US because there are subsidies in America for domestic postal service.

  3. Love, love, love each and every one of these Teeki leggings! I'm a new yogi (since 1/23 but have practiced every, single day) and would be yoga-ing in my birthday suit were it not for eBay. As soon as I can I will be sporting the constellations or dolphins. xoxo More yoga, please.

    1. You must save your pennies and get some gorgeous leggings! You deserve them with that kind of dedication. I think you're in luck if you like reading about yoga. :-)

  4. re the bra supplies, you are entirely correct!

re the yoga leggings, I find most of their prints to be quite alarming, though there are one or two that I would consider wearing. I am so not their target demographic in so many ways... and besides, if I did want leggings, I'd make my own, so they would fit me...

Their charge of $8.50 flat rate shipping within the US seems entirely normal to me, not terribly high, but comparable to other online company shipping fees. While a flat rate of 30$ to ship to Canada seems high in proportion to the cost of the leggings, when I look up the fees on the USPS calculators, I get prices on either side of that, so it is likely that is close to what it costs them for shipping. (All our postage and shipping fees went up quite a bit this year - I recently shipped something to Australia, and was astounded at the fee, as was my client)

    1. They are kind of alarming! That's what I find so intriguing :-) If I could find those fabrics, I would make my own... Interesting to read your take on the $8.50 shipping. I always find practically free intra-US shipping. Maybe I've just been lucky? All the postal shipping charges seem to have gone up tremendously lately. I wonder if we'll all be using couriers in 20 years.

    1. Please get the ones with the dolphins. Your ballet crew will be very on board, I'm sure.

  6. I love these and totally want the ones with the skull. Loud leggings are beloved here in Oakland, for workouts or for streetwear--I can only pull them off in the gym or out running, but I think they are awesome.

    1. Ha! I love the ones with the stripes in all directions but, as a migraine-getter, I couldn't do that to other people. They could throw me over the edge on the wrong day.

  7. I probably wouldn't wear any of the patterns, although the Northern Lights is pretty. But bell bottom leggings? Can't see that these would be practical for actually working out. All that extra material around the ankles would be distracting.

    1. The bell bottom ones are ridic, I totally agree. I can't imagine they're top sellers. They're more just fashion things, I imagine. And suspect ones at that :-)

  8. I especially like the Northern Lights, the stardust, Purple haze and Clouds and would wear those leggings to pilates or zumba. The horizontal stripes wouldn´t be very flattering to my pear shape I think. I hope the fit is right for you. I like the Dragon Fly series by Inknburn http://www.inknburn.com/, but the prices are quite high here in the Netherlands.

    1. I hope the fit works too! They're made without elastic so I think they need to fit right or they fall down. But the woman at customer service told me that they suit my body type the best. So we'ell see. I have to check out that link. Thanks!
