Polka Dots and Espadrilles

I bought this yarn to keep myself off the ledge re: over-extended, semi-regular interaction with large blocks of unmelted street ice (laced with pollution):

More to come on this, but (shh...) I'm using it to make a fantastic shawl that just screams spring:

(Blogger won't let me link to this deceptively simple pattern at the moment, but you can find info through my Ravelry page.)

It's my first time knitting with this single ply yarn. It is very popular and very reasonably priced at about 22 bucks for 420 yards. I'll let you know my thoughts as I knit.

  1. That's going to be a cute pop of spring colour (and it will keep you warm until spring gets there!

    1. This repeat is deceptively simple, but the combo of this single ply yarn, slippy needles and a regular pattern of FOUR yarn overs means that this has been tricky to get started. It's coming along...

  2. My least favorite part of midwestern winters: in the early spring when the snow and ice is all dirty. Aren't you just over it?

    1. I know! It's HIDEOUS. I was over it a month ago. And today, for the first time, I could see a small patch of my front garden emerging from the feet of snow that's been piled up on top of it.

  3. I have the Espadrilles colourway in Tosh Sock! I couldn't believe how much I wanted it as soon as I saw it (no one would describe me as a pink person). It's been in my stash for a while now, but I intend to use it to knit myself some unnecessarily fancy spring socks!

I can't wait to see how your shawl turns out. I love that the polka dots are done with negative space.

    1. It is INSANELY gorgeous. I love how it's pink with red - so if you like pink, it works. If you like red, it works, if you like coral, it works. I can't wait to see how this thing turns out either!

  4. This is fingering yarn, technically, but it is as slim a fingering that I'd like to knit with. I prefer puffier wool - that's multi-plied - and this is single ply, thin yarn. Mind you, I've seen it blocked and it's beautiful - it really dries very evenly. Do I love how it feels as I knit? Not as much as Tosh Sock! Having said this, the colour is amazing so it keeps me engaged.

  5. I am having a chuckle at myself at the moment. Based on the title, I thought it was going to be a post about shoes...

It's a pretty shawl pattern. I have a few shawls and reach for them for so many summer evening events, particularly weddings.
