Can you get over the sassy elegance of this new Vogue pattern?
Arguably, Mr. Rucci is the company's most pedigreed designer. His garments always look incredibly expensive - entirely correct - if verging on chilly.
What do you think of this dress? Would you wear it? Would you make it? Experienced sewists, does it seem very complicatedly constructed?
That is so chic.
ReplyDeleteLove Ralph Rucci! And yes, I'd wear this dress although I think I'd make it in a softer fabric than the photo shows. It looks like the most difficult part will be getting those angled seams in the sleeves exactly right.
ReplyDeleteI love it, but it could look like a nurse's uniform in the wrong fabric. Yes, I think it would be a complicated garment to make. Can't wait to see the pattern pieces.
ReplyDeleteI love this! I like shirt dresses but fear they come off as a little too "Mrs. Cleaver" sometimes. But this one is totally sassy.
ReplyDeleteIt must be fairly complicated, judging by the line drawing, and it takes a ton of fabric. I might just have to get it though, the sass factor and the bow win me over.
Strangely, this is one of the only dresses in the Vogue new pattern release that I didn't really like. I think I'd sew/wear the new Koos van den Akker two-piece before this one.
ReplyDeleteHave you seen the now OOP Vogue 1048? LOVE that Rucci. OMG. My skillz just aren't there yet, and may never be. Check out the detail on that dress. Le sigh.
It's like a beautiful straitjacket!
ReplyDeleteI love Rucci's designs but as an advanced beginner/intermediate seamstress, I fear they are beyond my competence.
ReplyDeletePinwheel: I so agree.
ReplyDeleteCouture: I totally agree - the fabric needs to be a bit less severe.
Kay: I do feel that this fabric is too nurse-y - but I can see it in blackberry.
Andrea: It's an Average - so I suspect you are right about the complexity.
Sewn: I love that other Rucci!
Wendy: You really called it!
Meilu: I'm kind of on the same page as you.
whoah. that is gorgeous. i clicked to read the comments to see if peeps thought it would be hard to make, and i'm still laughing at wendyB's assessment...
ReplyDeleteoona: I know. Wendy really has a way with words.
ReplyDeleteThat photo totally caught my attention too - I don't know, though, that the sloped raglan-esque sleeves would be very falttering on my already sloped narrow shoulders! I loved that Koos VDA dress, though!
ReplyDeleteEven Wendy can't dampen my enthusiasm for that dress, although I do think Vogue sometimes picks the least interesting designs from Mr. Rucci's arsenal. Or does he decide?
ReplyDeleteAnyway, yes I will make it, even Wendy proves to be right and I wear it only once.
Patty: I hear you on the sleeves. But I bet the design is so flawless, with a fabric having lots of body it would all work out.
ReplyDeleteM: I don't know if he decides. Interesting question. It's not an everyday dress. Well, unless you're a very fancy lady :-)
I totally love the dress. It's gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteAnd it can be yours for 18 bucks! (Sort of.)
