The Summer Series: Guernsey Triangle Shawl (Check!)

This (admittedly lovely) project represents a fuck of a lot of work that I didn't much enjoy - rare for a knitting project:

Guernsey Triangle Shawl (Pattern: Jared Flood, Yarn: Brooklyn Tweed, End result: I'm taking all the credit)

I made it with a different shade of Brooklyn Tweed yarn (Barn Owl vs. the Woodsmoke of my first foray) this time around. Hilariously, it looks EXACTLY the same (though I did block this one larger and I prefer the feel of this yarn).

It's the second time 'round (first one went to my mum) and I don't imagine I'll be making it again anytime soon. I warn you, it gives knitting tedium a new metaphor. But let's take five minutes to be grateful for its cuddly, elegant warmth. Oh, and the fact that it's done.

Whatcha think?

  1. Well, it's done, you live in a climate where you can get plenty of wear out of it, and it should be neutral enough to wear with just about everything in your wardrobe, so I'd call it a win. :-)

  2. It's beautiful! very classic, so you can wear it for years and years and forget how boring it was to make!

    1. Oooh, everything's good when you call it classic. And I will forget, no doubt. I can't remember what I ate yesterday.

  3. Boring knitting = TV knitting. I love TV!

    Very pretty - so autumnal!

    1. OK, I love TV too! But I like to read blogs and TV watch, when the knitting seems dull :-) Mind you, I'm really happy with it now that it's done and I imagine it will be a very useful garment.

  4. It's a fabulous texture, that stitch in that yarn, and the colour is subtle enough to let the texture shine. And it will soon be cool enough to wear, sadly . . .

  5. It's a beauty. You'll be grateful for the warmth after putting it away for a few weeks. Let the compliments begin!

  6. You should take all the credit!! This is a beautiful, beautiful shawl. I find that as the memory of the tedium fades, the "it's worth it" feeling grows, even if it is a never again project.

    1. I know! You're so right about how the "it's worth it" feeling grows.

  7. Wow, that's pretty. So much detail. I think you'll get a lot of wear out of that, it's a classic colour and style and being a shawl, you'll never have to worry about it not fitting.

    1. I love not having to worry about the fit, given all the challenge I went to in the making it! Thanks, C.

  8. I can imagine it was tedium beyond words...but the result is chic and elegant and timeless. Worth the work in my book!
