I do keep notes but they're packed away who knows where at this point. I do suggest, in this instance, that you email Andi (the designer). She's very responsive and I'm sure she can clarify things for you. Hope you find yourself on solid ground soon. Do check out Ravelry for pattern notes from everyone who's made it. You might also find answers to your questions in that format.K.Linehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15350615302797686048noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1606088928583067206.post-63460250297549818782014-05-30T05:20:48.173-04:002014-05-30T05:20:48.173-04:00Hi. I realise I'm about two years behind here but I just recently bought the Chuck pattern and I can't even get started because I don't get how the back goes. I love the sweater but the pattern is not written clearly. I've even asked someone with 50+ years experience to decipher just the first two sections and she doesn't get it either. To me it seems like two separate pieces both only 17 stitches wide. But the back looks like one flat stockinette. I don't suppose you have any photos or tips about it from when you did this pattern? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!Lisa Mariehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00553755129311588066noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1606088928583067206.post-80488332896119839382012-09-21T10:35:44.617-04:002012-09-21T10:35:44.617-04:00Thing is, I have done cables on small projects lik...Thing is, I have done cables on small projects like gloves and scarves and they were not difficult at all! I think not all cable projects are created equally. Frances (materfamilias) has indicated that what complicates cables, in part, is the width of the stitch pattern i.e. when the cables go horizontally over a wide span. So stick to those vertical twisty ones (they look so impressive but they're easy) for your first go around.K.Linehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15350615302797686048noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1606088928583067206.post-66001345717492013892012-09-21T10:33:35.188-04:002012-09-21T10:33:35.188-04:00I find Andi's pattern instructions to be very ...I find Andi's pattern instructions to be very clear but not geared towards my gaps in knowledge. It is an irrational fear of mine that I must face, maybe on a very small project. I like the knitting friend source the best, but On-line videos are invaluable. When I first learned to knit there was no such thing and I couldn't always get to my grandma to ask her. I spend a lot of time confused.VictoriaRnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1606088928583067206.post-54130575174097340252012-09-18T08:32:37.443-04:002012-09-18T08:32:37.443-04:00When I was knitting my Agatha sweater (by the same...When I was knitting my Agatha sweater (by the same designer) I found that the instructions left out some things I was accustomed to seeing in other patterns - I was able to fill in the blanks, but I don't think I would recommend her patterns to a beginner.
I have found that many patterns will tell you to start on row 1 of the cable pattern in the instructions (so for this pattern, in row 4 it would have said something like: k4, work row 1 of cable pattern over 8 stitches, k4). I couldn't even find an explanation of what the instructions were saying through google!
But yep, having online knitting friends is the BEST! They always have my back :)

I think my process is so similar to yours. Always taking notes! As an at least intermediate knitter, the dozens of cabled projects I've knit mean that I take for granted the separation between the numbering of a cable's pattern and the numbering of fit elements. I can see exactly how easy it would be to make this error, especially since you crammed a few years' learning curves into one!materfamiliashttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16062766947897513369noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1606088928583067206.post-75353237839087797902012-09-17T18:34:52.524-04:002012-09-17T18:34:52.524-04:00Egad!
